We have two weeks of Spring term remaining before our Easter break. There will be no rehearsals the weeks of April 1st and April 8th, and then our Summer term rehearsals will commence the week of April 15th.

For Wokingham Choir, there are a few irregular dates to note for the start of the Summer term:

  • Monday April 15th, 7.30–9.30pm: We will be at St Cecilia’s School (RG41 1BJ), our new regular rehearsal venue
  • Sunday April 21st , 2–4pm: we have an extra rehearsal in lieu of the Early May Bank Holiday, at Birch Hill Community Hall (RG12 7WW)
  • Monday April 22nd, 7–9pm: We have a joint rehearsal with Berkshire Youth String Ensemble at King’s Academy Prospect School Gym (RG30 4EX) – parking info to follow
  • Saturday April 27th, 7.30pm: Shakespeare Songs Concert at Wokingham Baptist Church (RG40 1DE) with a rehearsal from 4–c.6pm

All dates are on the Sing Healthy Events Calendar

Separately, as many of you will now know, we have had the sad news that our long-standing member Joan Davis passed away last month. Please see a message below from Ann Stainton with details of Joan’s funeral.

Many thanks for your attention,
Louise

Joan Davis

We are sorry to share the sad news that our dear alto Joan Davis passed away on 24th February. Joan has been a long-standing and loyal supporter of Sing Healthy for very many years and wholeheartedly embraced the ethos of our founder, Dorian, to share the joy of singing in the wider community.

She loved the concerts and the singouts and was a keen supporter of CLASP, our choir for adults with learning disabilities in Wokingham. Whether carol-singing with SH or sessions with CLASP, come rain or shine, indoors or out, Joan would be there, often travelling by bus from Bracknell. During Covid times, she embraced the technology to keep in touch and was one of the first to return to in-person rehearsals.

As a regular member of Bracknell choir, we shall miss her steady presence, her encouraging words, her ready smile, her zest for life, her enthusiasm and support for our causes. Our thoughts are with her family and friends and we shall miss her dearly.

Joan’s funeral is on 26th March at 11.30 am, Church of Latter Day Saints, off Ringmead, Hanworth, Bracknell RG12 7AT

Please let Ann Stainton know if you would like to attend. We’ll wear our choir red tops.
